victory of Hamillton in exciting Belgian grand prix despite Russell’s Disqualifiaction

Lewis Hamilton’s teammate,

George Russell, was disqualified for driving an underweight car after the race, and Hamilton went on to win the Belgian Grand Prix.

Oscar Piastri of McLaren finished third. The Mercedes team participated in an exciting late chase, with two-stopper Hamilton attempting to pass his one-stopping teammate for the lead. However, he was unable to do so.

Russell’s car was deemed to be underweight, and the stewards were consulted on the issue, according to a Technical Delegate’s Report that was released after the Grand Prix. Mercedes acknowledged a “genuine error” by the team and thus excluded the Briton from the results.

Regarding the on-track action, Hamilton passed Charles Leclerc after just two laps, despite Leclerc starting the race well from pole position. From that point on, the seven-time world champion performed admirably on a course that he has won four times already.

Russell had taken a risk by pitting just once on Lap 10 of 44, meaning that as the Grand Prix neared its conclusion, he was trying to nurture his aged hard tyres, while the majority of the field had chosen a two-stop race.

In the final laps

Hamilton got painfully close to his teammate Russell, but the Briton was unable to overtake him. Russell crossed the finish line barely 0.5 seconds ahead of Hamilton, earning what would have been his third Grand Prix victory if he hadn’t been disqualified.

Piastri moved up to take third for McLaren, which is currently second, behind the Mercedes pair. Charles Leclerc will move up to third in the Ferrari. After starting the Red Bull in P11 position, Max Verstappen recovered to move his team into fifth place on the road and fourth place overall.

It appeared to be a difficult day for the McLaren driver at times, as Lando Norris had to settle for fifth place despite coming close to Verstappen, while Carlos Sainz, his former teammate, finished sixth for Ferrari.

Sergio Perez of Red Bull finished the day down in P7 after Sainz passed him in the closing stages of the race as concerns about the Mexican’s position on the squad persisted.

For Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso finished in eighth place. Daniel Ricciardo of RB and Esteban Ocon of Alpine completed the top ten.

Alex Albon replaced Williams in the Aston Martin, followed by Lance Stroll in P11.

On a weekend that saw the announcement of Bruno Famin’s resignation as Team Principal, Pierre Gasly finished 13th for Alpine, and Kevin Magnussen in the Haas finished 14th.

Kick Sauber was once again left empty-handed after the race. Valtteri Bottas finished in P15, ahead of Yuki Tsunoda of RB, Logan Sargeant of Williams, and Nico Hulkenberg of Haas, who finished in P18.

The only retirement of the day was Zhou Guanyu, who lost control of his Kick Sauber due to a hydraulic problem.

IT HAPPENED:

Focus switched to Sunday’s 44-lap Belgian Grand Prix after Verstappen set an excellent standard to take P1 in Saturday’s qualifying. However, he was later demoted to P11 on the grid due to an engine penalty, which put Leclerc in pole position.

Before the race, the grid was slightly altered. In addition to Verstappen’s previously noted grid drop, Tsunoda had to start from the back after adding several new power unit components, and Zhou was penalized three positions for obstructing Verstappen in the first qualifying round.

It was confirmed that everyone had chosen the medium tires, with the exception of Sainz and Zhou, who had both bolted on the hard rubber, and Ricciardo on the soft compound, when the tyre blankets came off as the vehicles gathered on the grid for the anticipated two-stop race.

Leclerc held the lead off the line with a strong start, while Hamilton overcame Perez with a visually striking launch as well. Verstappen was quickly gaining ground as Norris dipped a tire into the gravel and lost many positions.
