Microsoft reports that an outage connected to CrowdStrike has affected roughly 8.5 million of its devices.

About 8.5 million Microsoft devices were impacted by a worldwide tech outage linked to a software upgrade by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, the company claimed in a blog post on Saturday.

According to our current estimates, less than 1% of all Windows computers, or 8.5 million Windows devices, were impacted by CrowdStrike’s upgrade, the blog post stated.

Microsoft announced that it was collaborating with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to share information on the impacts it was witnessing in the industry, and that CrowdStrike had assisted in the development of a solution that will help Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure expedite a remedy. It stated in a blog post that even though the percentage was small, the broad economic and societal impacts reflect the use of CrowdStrike by enterprises that run many critical services.

Delta airlines

One of the hardest-hit airlines, Delta Air Lines, reported that more than 600 flights had been canceled as of 10 a.m. EDT (1400 GMT) on Saturday, and that more cancellations were anticipated.
